Hello internet, lately I've been getting this error randomly while Minecrafting. I'm not too sure what is causing it, and there is literally nothing on the internet about OpenGL error code 9. There also isn't anything in the Minecraft crash logs. Pl0x halp :[
I have a slight supposition the newer drivers are causing it, but i'm not sure.
Lol if you looked at the specs pic it already states i have 337.88 installed. I also always do a clean installation when i install new drivers.
Lol.
Have you actually did that before dismissing it? No where in your first post did you state you had uninstalled, and had then reinstalled said drivers. Yes I am aware that you have 337.88 installed, but I was recommending a reinstall. You also did not state that you did do a clean installation in your first post.
Another thing I forgot to ask, by any chance are you using any rendering modifying mods? That may be causing the issue as well. This includes Optifine.
I'm actually having this same issue. Not sure what is causing as there is no Crash Log in Minecraft. I tried reinstalling the drivers with a fresh install as well. It also seems to be random and nothing else is causing it. I ran Furmark for an hour and did not have a crash. This issue seems to occur both on Vanilla and Modded, and popped up about two weeks ago.

I've noticed with my Recording software that has a GPU status that it seems like for some reason MC is not releasing memory. It hasn't happened in a while, but i have changed my game play since i started having the issue. Will continue to monitor this as a possible issue.

I must ask one question, are you just running 3 different displays or is it 3 separate video cards? I ask because of the specs showed showing 3 graphics sets.

I'm having this error as well (for a while now) I have a 4gb gtx670 and just can not find a solution. I have TMI, optifine along with shaders running along with my minecraft (1.7.5) and getting the error code 9. I tried tweaking around settings in NVIDIA control panel but still no hope.
I got the same problem yesterday with Optifine 1.7.10. It seems to have fixed itself when i changed world loading from smooth to default. I don't have any problems in default or other games. For people using Optifine that might work. (I have latest Geforce drivers installed)
Do you mean Chunk loading as I can not find anything called world loading, and the closes (if not does the same thing) of what your trying to say is Chunk loading. I'll give it ago/run for a few days and see.
Edit: tried it (Chunk loading to default), worked for a bit but after 30 mins, it crashed this was in the console command/Launcher as the launcher seems to keep running. "AL lib: (EE) alc_cleanup: 1 device not closed" Any idea what this means?
I must ask one question, are you just running 3 different displays or is it 3 separate video cards? I ask because of the specs showed showing 3 graphics sets.
Think his running 3 separated cards cause he has SLI enabled, along with all 3 cards are running at different temperatures. Think he should disable SLI and that may work. Have to see but i've looked around and found alot of people are having trouble with SLI/cross-firer with minecraft. (it isn't even supported and won't do anything)
Tho if this helps, I am running 2 monitors separately of the same GPU. Tho I have never had that problem until a month or 2 ago.
I've been experiencing the same problem for a week now. The game just closes and the window pops up. There is no crash-report whatsoever.
I have a GTX 660 Ti, the latest drivers (340.52, already re-installed them) and use the 64-bit version of Java 1.7.0_65. I don't use any mods at all (Minecraft Version 1.7.5).
That's not the latest driver, BTW. 344.11 is. But that doesn't seem to be the problem here, I have the GTX 660 and had just done a clean driver install with 344.11, and running 64-bit Java 1.8.0_20 with Minecraft 1.8. I'm getting the same error. It also seems to take out OpenAL when the crash happens, because upon restarting Minecraft it starts in "silent mode".
I'm almost willing to bet the common denominator is friggin Windows 8.1. The OP is running Windows 8.1 64-bit. I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. Dolinmyster is running either Windows 8 or 8.1 (I'm guessing the latter)

Error popped up for me today 2x in a row, within 10 minutes of each other. And I'm on 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. So it's not something W8 UAC does.
(running FTB Lite 3 (Alpha) mod pack on 1.7.10, not relevant anyhow)
- Playing Windowed mode- GeForce 344.11 Driver
- i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
- 16GB Ram
- GTX 650 Ti
Found out that going to "Nvidia Geforce Experience" -> Tab "Drivers" -> "Reinstall Driver" -> "Custom Installation"
Select your settings that you'd like to have, express enables all options, just so you know.
MAKE SURE you select "Perform a clean installation"
I've played for 2 hours now, without problems. I don't know how or why it happened, but this fixed it for me. Perhaps some setting got corrupted somehow.
Problem is I was still having problems AFTER doing a clean driver install as I said in my earlier post.
There literally seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what causes it. Really it seems to be the only common denominator is the GeForce cards and 64-bit Java.
I don't know. There are people on 1.7 with or without mods having problems. I'm on 1.8 vanilla having the same problem.
I even want so far as to delete my %appdata%\.minecraft entirely and let it download again, but still had problems.

I'm also just recently running into this issue. I'm playing Hermitcraft Modsauce 1.7.10 mod pack. And this is also the only program or game that I'm encountering any problems with. SPECS
I also tried turning power management mode to prefer maximum performance in nvidia control panel manage 3d settings for java. I haven't tried the fresh driver install method though but I'm about to try it, and I should see if it works fairly quickly. I've had 4 of those opengl error code 9 crashes in the span of 45 minutes right before making this post. Will update.
**UPDATE**
I've been playing on the same server the crashes were occurring on before performing a clean install of my video drivers. Its been over an hour straight with no more opengl error 9 crash. Will update if it occurs again, but until then, assume you can chalk me up amongst the ones claiming a clean video driver install fixes the problem.
OK, I have a little extra testing info on this... When I run 1.7.10 with Shaders mod and Optifine HD, I do manage to get everything to load just fine, BUT after about 1 minute, thats when it will crash. BUT, it does NOT crash the other minecraft client I have open (which also crashes from time to time, but much less often). I am running this on Win7 SP1 64-Bit, with an i7-3770K (OC;d to 4.1 GHz), Nvidia GTX 760 (running the 344.11 drivers), 16 GB ram All plentiful specs. Now, when the one with all HD shaders and whatnot crashes, the one without, does not (but still likes to crash randomly when flying VERY fast.) Just a little testing info I've seen on my machine here, not sure if it would help to pin down any causes or not. Still though, its always the Error code 9.
I never got this kind of problem before till today (10/20/2014)! My friend MCFilmMaker13 has this same problem too. So I don't know how to solve this problem but can you help me and my friend fix that? It would be a big help
I have 2 minecraft installs, one with ATLauncher and one with MultiMC. They both have largely the same mods with a few differences. I've only experienced this problem with the ATLauncher game so far. It started a week or two ago, I installed the latest Nvidia drivers and that appeared to fix it, but it started doing it again today.
all i did to fix it was update java and it stop it.. hope it helps
Didn't work for me. Updated to the latest version of java I could without breaking things and it fixed it for like a day until it came back. Same deal with updating my graphics drivers again.
Edit: Also, when it isn't crashing, there appears to be some kind of memory leak because it eats up all 4gb of ram I give it then the framerate starts dropping until I restart the game. I don't know if this is related but it's how it's acting when I update drivers and get it running for more than a couple of minutes.
Double edit: Oh, and some extra information, it seems to be related to the one specific instance of minecraft. Another instance I had with a different mod set on AT Launcher does not have the problem and having transferred the mods and saves to a fresh instance on MCMulti I still get the same problem. Though as I said, I have another instance on MCMulti with almost identical mods (it has all the same ones but with some added) that works just fine and other people here have reported issues with vanilla minecraft. But both saves on the crashing instance crash.

There may be a "clean installation" option in the installer itself that you could use.
Lol if you looked at the specs pic it already states i have 337.88 installed. I also always do a clean installation when i install new drivers.
