Is there a limit to RAM allocation for Minecraft?



Specs on my PC



Intel i7 core 4770K 1150

32GB (4x8) DDR-3 RAM

Nvidia GTX 770 video card

Windows 7 Home Premium



The problem I'm having is that even though I have 32GB of ram...anytime I allocate more than 1G of ram to minecraft...minecraft crashes. I've tried allocating in MB already...the same problem exists. With my machine I should be able to dedicate atleast half (not that I'd ever need it), but I would like to know what is causing the problem. If any other info is needed I'll reply as quickly as possible.

Can you try using this in your launcher?

go to edit profile, check off JVM arguments, and input this. -Xms1024M -Xmx4096M

Of course you need to be using 64 bit java, not 32 bit IF that is a 64 bit copy of Windows 7.

If your OS is 64 bit, go here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html download both the 32 bit and 64 bit JRE (Windows x86 AND Windows x64) Install the x86 first then the x64 and try again.

You want to make sure the launcher points to java in the program files folder not the version in Program Files (x86)

I am running 64 bit Windows and Java I will try that and see if that does it

I had to manually install 64 bit java to be able to use more myself. Seems the autoinstalls only install 32 bit. I just went with the latest, JRE8, and that fixed it.

Where is the crash log?
