I'm having problems with Minecraft, and I believe that my computer is able to run this game, but sadly it's having trouble. My laptop is pretty fast when it comes to other games. I allocated some RAM to it, which helped it a bit, but it's still not fast enough to enjoy. Here are my system stats.
Processor: Intel(R)Core(TM)i5 CPU M480 @ 2.67GHZ 2.67GHZ
Installed Memory (RAM) 4.00GB (3.79GB usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System
If there is anything else I should include to resolve the problem, let me know. I hope you guys can help. Tell me if there is anything I should download or do.

check out a mod named Optifine. you can download the jar file and install it from that. it will create a new profile in the minecraft launcher. it allows you to tweak your settings to increase fps!
My Minecraft also tends to lag alot, but I have like over 30 mods installed (And Opitifine isn't compatible with two of them, unfortunately).
A quick solution is to do a Hard Reboot, it'll speed up the computer with not as many processes running at the same time
Also, I think this belongs in 'Discussion'.

You can also use your task manger to close applications that you don't need. I've done this a couple time to speed up Minecraft and League of Legends. Also make sure your practicals are set to the lowest setting. Lightning fast instead of fancy. Smooth lightning set to min. Render distance should be about 10 or lower.
That should help you out. If you haven't already done it.

I'm using an Hp Pavilion g4 laptop with an A6 vision amd card. With two 3gb processors to play my Minecraft.

That i5 M480 is even slower than my desktop i5 2500 has only 2 cores as opposed to 4 and half the cache and slower to boot. Also, you are using a 64bit OS and only 4GB memory. Your CPU is the bottleneck right there because even mine bottlenecks even with a GTX 470 GPU. You didn't mention what you are using for video, either onboard, which is bad or a separate GPU.
woops sorry, I was supposed to say the aren't made to play game
Let's see. I have two brothers. My older has a Sager Laptop that he uses for gaming, and my youger bro has a Lenovo that he uses for gaming. So you are wrong that laptop aren't made to play games.

I think what he meant was that a laptop that can pull the kind of gaming power an equivalent desktop can do is far more expensive. Laptops also tend to be much harder to keep cool.

One thing that you can do that will help is in your MC launcher go to edit profile then java settings > JVM arguments and type in -Xmx1G or ''2G or ''3G or even replace the #G with #M which allocates in MB (Megabytes) rather than gigabytes (1024 MB in 1G) don't download anything that proposes to "relieve lag" except optifine which is a mod that I use and helps when you use those to tips in conjunction with each other.

you can VERY easily make a laptop either just as efficient as a desktop by adding RAM or a new processor or even a better graphics card, and allocating more ram allows your system to not eat up the default amount that is used. An example that happens to me is that my system at default settings uses 500 megabytes of RAM and by increasing the amount allocated then your system allows minecraft to run more smoothly without causing the major lag spike that happens when MC uses 99% of allocated memory and resets it. I do see how it can decrease performance ONLY if you have too many programs running at once, and Hinu_Hyuga is right, when in the right situation you can end some processes that do not need to be running such as the MC launcher while playing MC or any other processes that are not in use. Just be sure the process that is ended is not a system process or you may harm your PC

all computers get hot. even desktops. the only reason general "run of the mill" laptops are less efficient is size, but maybe soon that may not be an issue, laptops may become more efficient than desktops some day..... who knows? and yeah now that you said that it was general laptops that have NOT been upgraded or custom built, indeed they are less efficient and in that case, I agree, a usual desktop is better than a standard laptop used for internet streaming and general things like watching movies.

all computers get hot. even desktops. the only reason general "run of the mill" laptops are less efficient is size because of that modern components have to be smaller so they are limited to using less power to produce less heat so the laptop won't fry its own motherboard, but maybe soon that may not be an issue, laptops may become more efficient than desktops some day..... who knows? and yeah now that you said that it was general laptops that have NOT been upgraded or custom built, indeed they are less efficient and in that case, I agree, a usual desktop is better than a standard laptop used for internet streaming and general things like watching movies. of course there are still options to upgrade laptops to be just as efficient. I have even heard computers being cooled by liquid helium... now that is cold!
I don't know about overpriced though, they are often cheaper.
Laptops getting hot? liquid cooling is a great option to keep it cool.
It may get hot, but all you have to do to fix that is get a computer-tray fan. A recommend a Belkin product. The fan has a two-year lifetime and greatly improves performance, while still being portable. Expect a price ~$20 and a lifetime of two years. It died a little while back, and I plan on getting another. Optifine also helps.
My computer was ~$300 and it is 3 years old. It has some issues, and has gone through Malware and Viruses. It went 60 fps easy with the fan, in games other than Minecraft like TF2, G-Mod, ect. Goes ~20 fps now, does not have Optifine currently, and the fan broke (Presumably due to age).
The computer is an Acer Aspire series with 500GB HDD Hard drive, and an Intel Pentium P6200 Processor. Keep you coputer from being hot and you both get a faster performance, and a longer computer lifetime.
Just stop here, really stop. This is off-topic, if you wish to continue this discussion please pm me instead
ok I am sorry, I am done with this. I had realized some statements I made were wrong and I don't know how to delete them. especially about the laptop prices being cheaper, you were right about laptops not being good for gaming (usual laptops that are not enhanced for gaming)

I DID notice an improvement updating to java 8.

I downloaded both the 32 bit and 64 bit, installed 32 bit first then 64 bit after.

it's your only hope.
So why are there Lenovo, Sager, and Aleinware laptops that are made for gaming? You good sir are still wrong.
My laptop is better than one of my friends desktop. And mine is a little older than his.

It is a bit old.
It runs decently for it's price.
