OK, I installed Forge last week and just now got around to installing the mod I wanted (Mo'Creatures mod). So I followed the instructions and installed everything I needed, but when I went to run Forge for the first time with the mods in the mod folder, the screen was black for a few seconds and then it gave me a modded crash report. I am a super newbie when it comes to mods, so if you could please explain it so that a dumb person could understand? XD Thanks, and here's the crash report itself:

You need to install Forge for Minecraft 1.7.2. If you rename your current Forge profile beforehand, you'll still be able to use Forge 1.7.10 with minimal hassle. Just don't mix mods from different game versions.
thank you!!! I got it working. It's choppy and lagging, but only for a few seconds. And I have another quick question. Can I store mods from different versions in just a regular folder on my desktop?
Some mods require additional libraries that get automatically downloaded and end up in subfolders in "mods". You probably don't have anything that triggered it yet. Make a subfolder, in "mods", named after Minecraft's version number, i.e. "1.7.10", move all respective mods to the subfolder. Do the same for 1.7.2/1.6.4 mods. If you use this method, you can't leave any mod files (ignore folders created by some mods) in the root "mods" folder.
AAAAAH ok.. got it now. Another quick question if you don't mind answering. Just downloaded NEI and it's respective needs (Chickenbone) and I can open my inventory and it only shows me my regular items and the items for Mo' creatures. do i need to disable Mo creatures in order for it to work?
NEI 1.7.2/1.7.10 is a *bit* unstable at the moment. Still pretty fresh, lots of bugs. Try using the latest instead of recommended versions, but no guarantees.
Right, but I thought 1.7.10 was the latest version? That's the latest version I see... So yeah I'll just take the 1.7.2 NEI out of the mods folder for now I suppose.

What I have tried is: installing 1.7.2 then renaming both the 7.2 and the 7.10 folder (7.2 to temp and 7.10 to 7.2), renaming the .jar and .json files on top of renaming the folder, renaming and then copying,pasting,overwriting...
If anything, it doesn't show up on the launcher choices and/or exits right after loading...
Any help or clarification would be appreciated...thanks in advanced!

My idea:
I know this is reviving an old thread, but I am having the same issue as the OP and was trying to "still be able to use Forge 1.7.10". Can grimaliq and/or any other experienced user please elaborate -- maybe even write a step by step writeout/guide?
