I recently created a Forge server (ver. 9.11.1.965) for MC 1.6.4, and I've been having a problem with the hearts and food bar being faded when I play on the multiplayer server I created and also in singleplayer.
(See attached screenshots)
Also, when you open up your inventory, and (presumably) most other GUIs, the HUD seems to appear in full color, as opposed to when a GUI isn't open.
The mods I added are as follows:
Inventory Tweaks
NEI
Enchanting Plus
Iron Chests
Thermal Expansion
Chicken Chunks
Ender Storage
Morph
Minefactory Reloaded
Twilight Forest
Witchery
Blood Magic
Thaumcraft
Ars Magica
Magical Crops
Tinkers Construct
Mystcraft
Soul Shards Reborn
Biomes O' Plenty
Botania
Natura
Gravity Gun
Animation API
For anybody who has this problem, I've finally found the solution (at least to these certain circumstances).
As what Noobsdie4eva said, it does seem to be an issue with Ars Magica 2.
To fix, just make your first spell through the AM2 system--that's what made everything not-faded and normal. It may also help to say "/amuicfg" and cycle through all the options turning each one on and off to make sure the AM2 Hud is displaying, since that is what is probably causing this issue.

Advanced Thaumaturgy
[Mods in client files only]:
Zan's Minimap

Anyone have an idea why this is happening?
Thanks in advance!
