I minecraft 1.6 it wasn't so laggy i runned around 100fps, but when 1.7 came i runned 30-20fps. I don't now if it's my computer, but i run the most graphic intense game (battlefield 4) at 100fps.
If you have the same problem or kbow how to fix this post it in the comments!
I've noticed an FPS drop in recent updates as well. In your launch options, put this in (Minus the quotes) "-server -Xrs -XX:ThreadPriorityPolicy=42 -XX:+TieredCompilation -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 -XX:SurvivorRatio=8 -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=15 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UseBiasedLocking -XX:UseSSE=3 -XX:+UseCodeCacheFlushing -XX:+UseThreadPriorities -XX:+UseFastAccessorMethods -XX:+AggressiveOpts -XX:+ReduceSignalUsage -XX:+UseInterpreter -XX:+UseFastEmptyMethods -XX:+UseSharedSpaces -XX:AllocatePrefetchStyle=1 -XX:+AlwaysCompileLoopMethods -XX:SharedReadOnlySize=30m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+RewriteFrequentPairs -XX:+OptimizeStringConcat -XX:+CMSCleanOnEnter -XX:+UseSplitVerifier -XX:+UseInlineCaches"
If you don't know where to paste that code, follow this screenshot:
Newer updates tend to add more things and need more power. Download Optifine, allocate more memory, or buy a faster PC. Minecraft normally lags because it uses Java, unlike Battlefield.

I never had this problem, as my Minecraft game ran well on my MacBook Air, and even though it was at 30 FPS (max), my friends told me that's really good for Macs. Also, Optifine works really well. Although, your lag could be because Minecraft had lots more things added in 1.7 and so on, so that could be the problem. but yea, I recommend Optifine.
