I recently purchased a computer from a friend, and it unfortunately doesn't run any Java programs. I have installed Java, and made sure that it is up to date, but the problem persists. I am running it on a Toshiba Satellite L455D laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit OS, with 2GB of ram, an ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics Card, and an AMD Sempron SI-42 ~2.1GHz processor. Under is a copy of what the updated Minecraft launcher says after it checks for updates.

If you could be so kind as to tell me how to correct the error, I would be very grateful.
From those system specs, you have the same laptop as me. It's a Toshiba Satellite L455d?
I've never had that problem with this laptop though... try updating it. Make sure all updates (even optional) are installed on Windows Update. Also, update the laptop's drivers from the Toshiba website.
Ease of access: Wi-Fi (direct link) Graphics Drivers (DOWNLOAD THESE FOR GRAPHICS DRIVERS! TOSHIBA DOES NOT HAVE THIS ON THEIR SITE FOR THIS LAPTOP!)
Those two are most likely causing the problems. Install them both and report back. Good luck

It's slightly different, and I've installed the Toshiba drivers, but only three of the Windows updates. Working on those currently

Ok, I tryed to install the Windows Service Pack 1 (KB976932), and it gave me Error Code 80073712. I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter, and it said Windows Update Error Ox80073712. I am working on fixing it, but I am not sure how it will turn out. I am using thishttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/957310.

Update:
So, I never did figure out how to fix the error. But, that doesn't matter now that I am using Windows 10, includind all of it's updates to date. I decided to give it a shot yesterday for the heck of it, and I got this:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError
at org.apache.logging.log4j.util.PropertiesUtil.<init>(PropertiesUtil.java:71)
at org.apache.logging.log4j.util.PropertiesUtil.<clinit>(PropertiesUtil.java:31)

at org.apache.logging.log4j.util.ProviderUtil.<clinit>(ProviderUtil.java:70)
... 6 more
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Using incremental CMS is deprecated and will likely be removed in a future release
Now, as I don't Java, this is all Greek to me. I do have the latest version of Java installed. Any ideas, forum-dwellers?

"Starting launcher.
