So... I installed some mods and all of them worked fine. I then wanted an unmodded version and found that the only way to do that is to force update. So, I deleted .minecraft and ran the launcher and this is what came up:

Unable to rename - could be on another filesystem, trying copy & delete.
Copy & delete succeeded.
Looking for update
