I have posted this in another forum, but it seems like I would get more answers here. Just looking to be cautious with my children...
Hi,
Well, my 8-year-old son really wants to mod Minecraft but doesn’t know how. I, frankly, am a nurse and haven't the faintest clue what he is talking about. I try my hardest to stay away from the computer, so this modding thing had really thrown me for a loop! His friends have been talking about an app called Mcmodkit and he really wants to download the "twilight forest" mod here:https://www.mcmodkit...twilight-forest
It sounds like exactly why my son needs and the videos make it look like it’s really easy to use. I am afraid that if I just figure out how to download one mod... Then he will just want another one and it will be the death of me to figure it out! He already changes his mind faster than I change underwear!
Does anyone know anything about Mcmodkit? Is it safe? Should I let my son download and use it? I just don't want to put a virus on my computer. Sheesh, it barely turns on as it is!
I frankly haven't ever heard of mcmodkit, but would recommend a tool called MultiMC, which both I and the other users of this forums can vouch for. MultiMC requires a little bit more out of your son, but is a great learning opportunity. Just download MultiMC and place it in a new folder on your desktop. Once downloaded, he can create a new instance and install Minecraft Forge from the drop-down menu. Then just use QuickMods (a button you will see) to install any mods that he wants. If he wants to play with mods, ask him about using modpack. These are prepackaged "packs" that contain many different types of mods that compliment each other and make the game more enjoyable. I know that I have blabbed a little bit, but if you ever need any help, just reply to this thread and I can help you further.
As for MCModKit, I see you threw caution to the wind and even got a bit of advertising into your post.

So, I went to Multi MC and downloaded it. I downloaded Forge but where are the selection of mods? Am I supposed to find them? I think this MultiMC thing is way too complicated for me. I think I will just stick with MCModkit for now. A list of mods are already there for him to choose from...
