My family's computer has Kaspersky internet security, and about 2 or 3 months ago, it received a new update. Ever since then, I have not been able to log in to Minecraft. I cannot play on servers or update. When I start up the launcher, it says "play offline" instead of "play".
I did a bunch of research, and found out that the problem was caused by one Kaspersky setting, which is "scan encrypted SSL certificates". I got my dad to disable that temporarily to see if it would fix the problem, and it did, but after that, he immediately turned the setting back on. He refuses to turn it off for more than 30 seconds, because he is paranoid about viruses. Because of that, I can't play on servers.
Is there any other way to fix the problem? Please tell me if you have any other ideas.
(BTW my dad DOES want me playing Minecraft on servers. He has told me that. He just doesn't want the computer unprotected.
Don't tell me to plead with him, because I already tried that. He just yelled at me for a bit about how dangerous viruses are.)
SSL encryption is not really an essential feature, and does not really help much in protecting your computer. There is no other way to fix this. You would have to convince your dad it is harmless to turn that off.
If your dad is paranoid then tough luck I suppose.
I hope this doesn't count as bumping an old thread, but my dad made an exception for Minecraft. The only problem is that every time there is a new launcher update, he has to do it all over again (which takes him a long time to figure out how). Is there any other way to do it?
... I'm guessing that he made an exception for the program binary? The problem with this is that every time the launcher updates, it's a new program. The update replaces the old launcher. A less maintenance heavy option would be to whitelist the servers the launcher talks to if possible, since they change infrequently.
