My horse disappeared (hence the title). It did not despawn. I logged out right in front of it, and it was missing when I logged back in. It was fully enclosed with planks and fence gates. It has remained there with me venturing off to distant lands. There was no lead attached. I have no texture packs but a downloaded skin. It had no nametag. The horse was tamed. This was a singleplayer map without any other players.
I've read of this situation before. People think that the horse despawned, escaped, or was stolen. None of these are the case. Nametags are the most likely solution, but I've heard that they do not work. I've heard of horses suffocating, which might be the issue.
If someone knows the solution, please enlighten me. Otherwise, could the development team be bothered to fix this? Horses and their equipment are scarce, and it would really ruin the whole horse update if they spontaneously disappear.
It is a known bug that horses players have tamed can disappear when logging out.

Thank you kindly, Badprenup. I look forward to its fix. In the meantime, I suppose it's boats for me.

I just retired as forum staff. I still play and post regularly. As for the bug, it has been around a while with no hints of any developer working on fixing it which is a shame.

I do hope someone is fixing this. Why bother find a horse, tame it, and give it a rare saddle and armor if it just pops out of existence?
Would using back-ups as restore points be a worthwhile idea?

Always a good idea to use backups, although it may not help in this situation unless it only happens sometimes. But I have never had it not happen since it first started.

Is it likely that the probabilities of horse disappearance vary by computers or some other hardware factor? This has been the first time it occurred for me. As I said (or rather, typed), I had the horse for many a login before this issue arose.
