Help! My chests won't open. I am running v1.7.9 and had a power outage last weekend. When the power came back on, that's when I noticed an intermittent issue. Sometimes, right-clicking on a chest failed to open it. But right-clicking in any other situation was fine. It opened doors and such. I can't figure it out. I tried it with Optifine on and off. I am running Java 7 Update 60.
Am I going to have to reinstall Minecraft? What about my saved games?
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.

Tried that. It didn't work. Could have corrupted it in other ways, though. I spawned inside a floor when I brought the game back up.

Mojang doesn't read the forums. All help you get is in the form of community support. If you spawned in the floor, the world may very well be corrupted beyond repair.
You could try moving yourself to a different location in the map and see if the problem persists. I suggest creating a new world to see if it's isolated to your world. If it is, then yes it is still corrupted, and you may have done something wrong when repairing the world.

When you say "you may have done something wrong when repairing the world." do you mean that I committed an error during the operation in MCEdit, or that MCEdit corrupted my world beyond repair? I carried out the instructions exactly as you enumerated above.

Curse PremiumTried that. It didn't work. Could have corrupted it in other ways, though. I spawned inside a floor when I brought the game back up.

Retired StaffMojang doesn't read the forums. All help you get is in the form of community support. If you spawned in the floor, the world may very well be corrupted beyond repair.
You could try moving yourself to a different location in the map and see if the problem persists. I suggest creating a new world to see if it's isolated to your world. If it is, then yes it is still corrupted, and you may have done something wrong when repairing the world.

Curse PremiumWhen you say "you may have done something wrong when repairing the world." do you mean that I committed an error during the operation in MCEdit, or that MCEdit corrupted my world beyond repair? I carried out the instructions exactly as you enumerated above.
