dell xps with windows 8.1
4th gen i5 3.10 GHz processor
8 GB ram
1 TB hard drive
geforce gtx 750 ti 2gb video card
600 watt power supply
minecraft seems to be only running at 15 fps with all video qualities on lowest settings, allocated 6gb of memory to the game, updated java 64, tried running as admin, tried compatibility modes, dark souls II plays on ultra like butter, skyrim, and fallout new vegas ALL on ultra high settings so i have no idea why minecraft is playing so poorly, i have searched on the internet for solutions to this problem and can't seem to find anything, if anyone has had this problem and has found a fix on it please let me know, minecraft, tropico 5, and bioshock infinite ALL have the same choppy laggy thing going on. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated please and thank you!!
ok fixed that problem had to take the Xmx6g off for it to start this is a screenshot i took, nothing else running except minecraft even closed browsers, my machine isn't slow theres no way im using too much computer (50-60 percent comp use in task manager) its like 17 to 18 fps now but thats garbage, i just don't get why its just this game and a couple other games, i can play other ones totally fine on ultra, i mean EVERYTHING turned all the way up edit: tried playing dark souls II on ultra everything works like butter running at 20% of comp use in task manager btw
Hi!
This error message is caused by the wrong type of java.
Make sure you are downloading 64 bit Java!
Also, try going into control panel and allocating more priority to minecraft. I'm a mac person and rarely use windows, so just google that!
already tried all that, gave it high priority, allocated the ram up to 6 gigs, and i have googled this issue for over a week unfortunately none of the solutions that were on google or any other forums helped at all, hence why i am posting a new topic, thanks for the reply though
If so, could you head to the nvidia control panel, and select "manage 3d settings". Do you see "program settings"?
If so, click on it, and add javaw.exe in it. It's usually at this path.
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe
i see the gpu settings and it ONLY has my 750 ti setting, there's no other options so that means its using it correct? i switched to everything back and forth no fps change still at 17-18 fps at the lowest settings

Right, head to power options (search that in the control panel), and set your computer to be on "High performance". Does it still lag?
i don't know what else to try, i've done everything i could think of, if i can't get help on here is there someone i can pay like a geek squad but not them to fix it?
What settings are you using? Try optifine to tweak some of the settings not normally listed, like how blocks are rendered etc. I think that your hardware should be perfectly capable of running Minecraft at at least 60 fps, so follow the steps I listed below to check your computer is recognising everything correctly.
Go to the start menu, and right click on computer, then click properties. Check that it is recognising all 8GB of RAM. Also check the other stats to see if they all match what they should be. Now search in the start menu for "Device Manager", and press enter to open it. Press the arrow next to Display Adapters, and check that the list that comes up contains your video card.
If there seems to be a problem with either of these, open up your PC and check that they are installed correctly.
Hope this helped.
well heres the thing, i have checked all that stuff and it totally recognizes everything i have ALL but 2 of my other games have worked perfectly fine on ULTRA HIGH only minecraft, tropico 5, and bioshock infinite has this issue, didn't do optifine because i didn't think a brand new computer with a brand new video card that works on EVERY OTHER GAME is an optifine fix, it can't be because optifine isn't for those other games, i've looked at every option and i can't find a solution. Its very disheartening and depressing that i can't find a freaking solution to this problem, its been almost a week and i can't find a solution. My patience is wearing thin and i either am gonna need a geek squad fix or refund this computer and get a new one.
still no progress, i haven't played minecraft in over 3 months because of this issue and its really sucking, i wish someone out there knew what to do, i have literally done everything everyone has said on every single forum in have been on and NO improvment on this game or two other games that im having problems with, i really miss minecraft and maybe one day some superhuman awesome person will appear in my life and fix this issue, until then i have accepted my fate and i guess im just not meant to play minecraft, tropico 5, or bioshock infinite ever again, screw you computer gods for that, i really enjoyed those games.
I have the same trouble with the same card, 8 GB, 4570 CPU, Windows 8.1. My crummy old laptop running Linux plays 1.7.10 just fine. Vanilla 1.7.10 is ok on my desktop but add mods and the lag is ridiculous. Optifine helps but doesn't solve the problem totally. There is a bug in the Minecraft tracker about this issue but the fix only made it into the 1.8 code, which doesn't really help if you want to play with mods. I am still trying little tweaks but nothing solid yet. I really don't want to have to put Linux on my desktop PC just to play Minecraft... I have too many other things that only run on Windows.

That's false, The NVIDIA Control panel, manage 3D settings and program settings work with ALL NVIDIA graphics card hence the Word "NVIDIA" in the name....
Well, to start, Minecraft is not optimized, whatsoever. With that aside, when similar things happen to me, (assuming you have a up to date java installation) I uninstall java COMPLETELY, restart my PC then goto the java SE download page, and download the 64 bit java and install it, then i restart my PC again, and run minecraft. A fresh java install fixed many issues for me.
I'm having this same problem with this card too. I can play really demanding games like WarThunder on Ultra settings and never dip much below 30 FPS and average at least 50 but minecraft seems to just stomp all over my card. I really would like a fix for this. I'm getting about the same FPS as OP stated. 15-20 FPS and it really is a game killer.
