As said in the title, i've got this problem today. I wanted to play Minecraft because of the new snapshots (14w25a and 14w25b) and i couldn't open Minecraft, with the snapshots of course.
I currently have NOTHING modified in my Minecraft folder and i use a 3rd Party Launcher (TechnicLauncher) that does NOT use the .minecraft folder. That can't be the problem. Any ideas?
I believe that the problem is because of your launcher. Anyways, because of the fact that you're using a 3rd party launcher,mthis belongs in modified client support. This section is for vanilla launchers, and Minecraft that uses the vanilla files in .Minecraft.
Edit: sorry, I think I misinterpreted that. Well, if you are using the default launcher, then it looks like it's having trouble downloading library files. Try disabling and firewalls or an to viruses and try it again.
