I'm looking for the best way to maintain a template for my worlds that I build in case they are destroyed by a sudden burst of creeper mania.

What I tend to do:
- Create World in creative
- Change world to survival after working on it
- Save a template version of the world WITH the changes before I change it to survival

What is the best way to do this? Is there a simple way and I'm just dumb?

Go to your saves directory, select the world, copy it, and then paste it in the same place. It should look like this:

.minecraft
saves
world
world (copy)
