Does anyone know anything of this issue? My GPU can handle the game fine, but if I leave it running when my system goes into idle/power-saving mode(either paused or in inventory), the load on the GPU skyrockets to the point that the temperature goes up by 20 degrees and the fan kicks into high gear.

First try a system restore. If that doesn't work, go into the BIOS and check your PCIe frequency. It might have gotten altered somehow. It should be 100mhz idle.
