I have the game downloaded and up to date. I have Java downloaded and up to date. I have uninstalled both and reinstalled both. There is no gameplay icon to click to launch the game and when I hunt down the minecraft directory (I never got the option to put it where I wanted and has a very bizarre name) the files there do nothing when clicked on. I've right clicked and selected Open, nothing. The only way I have been able to play this game is by going through the download process EVERY TIME! Very annoyed, very frustrated. I have googled this question and found plenty of links to these forums offering various solutions that I have either tried to no avail or that simply to not apply to my issue. I do hope someone can help me with this. What I want is a simple desktop icon for the launcher that works like every other game I have played. Please and thanks!
The file you download is the launcher, place the launcher somewhere you could run it, say the desktop, you run this every time if you want to play the game. The files in the .minecraft directory are not meant to be run, they are game files.
When I select the file I downloaded (the launcher) I get a series of loading screens that is typical of a first time install, not a game launch. I would post pictures of them here but I do not see that as an option on this forum.
The first is the typical Windows user account pop up one gets whether system is asking permission to make changes to the computer (ie, load the game files). Again, this is typical. I see this on the first time use of any new program from Minecraft, to Skyrim,, to World of Tanks, etc. So I select yes.
Second I get the series of what I call junk files that appear as part of the install. These are asking me to accept the terms of service for several programs or I can decline and continue with the install/game launch. These programs are; You Tube Accelerator, ConstaSurf, RocketTab, BUZZ-IT, and finally desktop notifications about severe weather. I decline all of these or else I would have malware as you suggested.
Finally the downloading/launch screen comes up which opens Google Chrome for me to say that the software has been downloaded. I close this and have two windows left open. One tells me the Minecraft install is complete so I close it. The other is the only thing I would call a game launcher (because it says at the top of the window, "Minecraft Launcher 1.4.4". If this is the typical start up for everyone then something is seriously wrong with the launcher for this game. What I am seeking help with is being able to open what I have just called the launcher without going through the rest of the windows and loading screens that I'm afraid I must insist are NOT a launcher but rather an initial install process.
You fail to understand me. The downloaded file will only show you the launcher, not a series of windows you described in your post, of which case, further confirms that you have unwanted programs installed on your computer. The launcher does not prompt any installation of any programs at all.
The game does not have an installation process, it will show the launcher only, and the launcher manages the game files.
I understand you. I simply think there is an error. I downloaded the file from the minecraft website and from the first time I loaded it, I saw the additional windows. My computer is brand new. I just built it about two months ago and it has a fully updated virus protection program as part of windows 7. Nothing else has ever brought up the windows of additional software until I got the minecraft program from the minecraft website. If I have malware, then it came with my minecraft download.
Then I do not know what else to tell you. Minecraft is not the malware in this case, it does not show any additional windows, and never has. It is simply a launcher that manages and downloads the game files.
1) Prompt UAC. At most, it will just ask if you are sure you want to run the exe, which is not the UAC at all.
2) Open your browser and say a download is done.
3) Open multiple loading windows.
4) Come with crapware.
You downloaded something that is not Minecraft. End of story.
You need to remove the crapware you just installed now and download the real launcher from https://minecraft.net/download

Retired StaffIt is just one file, there are no junk files. You may have malware on your computer if that is the case.
