The problem was caused by a program called Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. Users experiencing a similar problem should try disabling the software while running the game. May also interfere with the launcher (blocking updates, the downloading of previous versions, etc).
Hello, I am an old-time user of Minecraft that has not played in several months. Minecraft has always run very well on my machine, but yesterday, when I updated to the latest version and started playing, I noticed a very odd problem: I was experiencing "block lag." By this I mean that I'd be destroying blocks at a steady pace, when all of a sudden, 1-3 blocks that I just destroyed would reappear as if I had never broken them (sometimes teleporting me backward in space, if I had been occupying the same space as them when they return). Now, back when I used to play frequently, this was a VERY common problem on multiplayer servers, which I chalked up to internet lag, but I never once experienced this in singleplayer mode, and thought that such a thing was impossible. However, here we are.I'm running the current version of Minecraft (1.7.9) on Windows, and my system specifications are as follows:
I'm running Java version 1.7.0_60, 64-bit version, though I also have the 32-bit version installed, and I'm not sure which Minecraft uses.So far, the solutions I have tried include:
Deleting everything but my saves folder, re-downloading minecraft.exe, and allowing it to install from scratch
Lowering render distance
Setting graphics from fancy to fast
Using Optifine
Starting a new world
None of them seem to have had any effect on my block lag. If anyone thinks they can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd love to get back into minecraft, but having blocks constantly reappear on me just ruins the experience.
Other symptoms I've noticed: Pressure plate lag (another symptom I formerly only noticed in multiplayer), mob lag (killing a mob and having them remain visible and immobile on the map for a few seconds before "dying"), and sound lag (placing several blocks with no sound, then hearing a loud sound as if all of them were placed at the same time).
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.

I will give it a try, but as I said, I tried creating an entirely new world, and still experienced block lag. Is it very likely that my new world would be corrupted as well?

"Block lag" is only caused by corruption if you say this happens in single player games. I would assume so.
Still experiencing this issue. I do not see how it can be due to a corrupted world, but just in case, I have performed a COMPLETE uninstall of minecraft (deleting minecraft.exe as well as the entire .minecraft folder, including the saves folder, which was the only one I kept last time). It's currently reinstalling. Will update once I determine whether or not the issue persists.
So at this point, it would seem that either the cause is not actually a corrupted world, or that every world I create is somehow corrupted, even after a clean install.
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't like having to mine the same blocks twice.
I've tried the IRC #minecrafthelp, and they don't have any ideas. I've tried Mojang support, who says
The problem you are describing does indeed sound like internet related rollbacks (caused by lag). I'm afraid that if it's happening in singleplayer, there's not much we can do since we're not aware of any other causes for this.
So I'm back here again.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything at all. A possible solution to try, a method to diagnose the problem or what's causing it... Anything.
Just wanted to update this topic in case anyone else has a similar problem in the future. The problem had to do with a program I was running called Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. It actively scans running code for "malicious" behavior, and apparently its meticulous scrutinizing of the minecraft code while the game was running was what was causing the problem. It was also interfering with my launcher, preventing it from downloading and installing a previous build of the game. From what I understand, the program is unlikely to play nicely with any other java-heavy programs as well.
In any case, disabling the software fixed the problem completely, and Minecraft is once again running like a dream on my machine.

- Deleting everything but my saves folder, re-downloading minecraft.exe, and allowing it to install from scratch
- Lowering render distance
- Setting graphics from fancy to fast
- Using Optifine
- Starting a new world
None of them seem to have had any effect on my block lag. If anyone thinks they can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd love to get back into minecraft, but having blocks constantly reappear on me just ruins the experience.Other symptoms I've noticed: Pressure plate lag (another symptom I formerly only noticed in multiplayer), mob lag (killing a mob and having them remain visible and immobile on the map for a few seconds before "dying"), and sound lag (placing several blocks with no sound, then hearing a loud sound as if all of them were placed at the same time).

Retired StaffIf your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit.

Retired Staff"Block lag" is only caused by corruption if you say this happens in single player games. I would assume so.
I did as you instructed, and am still having the block lag problem.
So at this point, it would seem that either the cause is not actually a corrupted world, or that every world I create is somehow corrupted, even after a clean install.
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't like having to mine the same blocks twice.
So I'm back here again.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything at all. A possible solution to try, a method to diagnose the problem or what's causing it... Anything.
In any case, disabling the software fixed the problem completely, and Minecraft is once again running like a dream on my machine.
