i downloaded minecraft and when i pressed the launcher for the first time it downloaded some files and whenever i press play on the launcher it starts downloading different files and goes back to the launcher screen and this is not stopping, i deleted the .minecraft folder and the exe file and started from scratch but i still have the same issue. any suggestions please

are you trying to install mods? i tried and i got the issue, try deleting .minecraft and don't install anything in it, use version 1.7.9 or 1.7.10 and try that..
