So I have been following tutorials and ALL advice that I can find on the internet in regards to this topic.
so I have tried to up the amount of memory that minecraft uses. I am tired of having to set my graphics to the lowest setting just to try and avoid lag. and yet I still find it when I am around water. when pressing F3 I get the total use of memory at 494 and I max that out all the time.
so I have gone into the Launcher on a new profile and put in the JVM arguments line the following things
here is the log from the launcher

ok so I did install the 64bit from your link. now it acts like it is going to start then goes right back to the launcher screen with the play button at the bottom

Go to your system properties to verify and make sure that you have a 64 bit OS, and not a 32 bit OS. If it is a 32 bit OS, then you obviously cannot run 64 bit Java.

1- -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar "C:\Users\MY NAME\Desktop\Minecraft.exe"
2- -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M
if I put either of these things in I get this in a new window
"Java Virtual Machine Launcher"
Error: could not create the java virtual machine
Error: a fatal exception has occurred. program will exit.
if I un check the box everything runs fine.
I should note the laptop is only 8 months old and has 8 gigs of RAM. windows 7 and Java 7 update 60
any ideas? I feel like I should jump into a lake of lava.....but there is to much lag for that.
thanks

Retired StaffGo to your system properties to verify and make sure that you have a 64 bit OS, and not a 32 bit OS. If it is a 32 bit OS, then you obviously cannot run 64 bit Java.
