While I know I've already posted a topic like this, I never got to solve the problem due to school, and I'm not going to necro-bump. So here we go again.
Note: Don't ask me about specs, hard rive, soft-ware etc... All i know is I have an iMac with OS X version 10.9.3.
I don't have a lot of memory and can't afford to allocate any more towards the game.
In normal versions of Minecraft, I get between 16-24 fps. Now that's somehow slow for people, but I find it just fine. If theres anyway to fix that lag, then tell me. But we are here to talk about old-beta and alpha versions. While in game with all settings turned to their lowest, it says I have 98-108 fps, but instead of playing smoothly, I lag like my uncle's old military computer he gave me.
Is there anyway to fix this without a new computer, more memory, or mods? I'd like to know if you know how.

Hello,
How to fix this:
Step 1) unplug the iMac
Step 2) Throw it on the ground
All jokes aside, this would probably be because of how extremely unoptimized the alpha versions of the game are. You cannot expect any alpha game to run smoothly, or any beta game at that. I can get 200 fps maxed settings in 1.7, and the fps mark claims to give me at lease 1200 fps in the alpha, yet it looks more like 30.

I'm not really tech savy, not even sure what "specs" are. But I'd love to, without getting a new computer, fix this lag. Old Minecraft (in my opinion) is far greater than the current version. I've never played Alpha, aside from the attempt of five minutes, but the lag forced me to close the program. I loved the simplicity of the game, no stupid try hard redstoners, mini games, abundance of children etc.
