There are several threads about chunks that load slowly.
This is NOT one of those threads.
I have a chunk in my world that, if I step into it, my frame-rate drops from about 10 frames per second (yes, I have a crappy computer, bleh) to about one frame per 10 to 15 seconds.
That's not a misprint!
If I escape from that chunk (which may take several minutes just to step a few blocs over the chunk boundary) the frame-rate returns to normal after a few seconds of being out of the slow chunk.
Even after quitting the game and going back in, that slow chunk is still there.
I also want to add that mobs can move normally in the "slow" chunk, and I can stand in the good chunk to dig and place blocks in the "slow" chunk (which is what I had to do to build one of the canals for my slime farm because [as most of you probably know] the canals are in adjacent chunks to the spawning platforms).
This is really annoying because I have to be super careful not to step into this one chunk which is fairly close to my base and some of my farms. In fact, it's adjacent to my slime farm...could that have something to do with it?
There's no screenshot because any screenshot would look like a perfectly normal Minecraft scene.
Is this supposed to be part of the game...chunks that force you to move s-l-o-w-l-y through them? Or is this a bug?
If this is a bug, I have no idea how to even report it formally. Has anyone else encountered this?
FYI, I'm playing unmodified vanilla Minecraft 1.7.9 single player on a Windows 7 machine.
If there is a lot of redstone or auto farms near that chunk, it could certainly drop your FPS. If the slime farm is really big, that could be doing it. Is there anything else besides a slime farm?

Try "Minecraft-Region-Fixer" to see what is going wrong. (Maybe u got to many entities in the chunk.)
If the "slow" Chunk maybe near an jungle???

I really don't know what's in that particular chunk (I can't go in it to light up caves, etc). On the surface, it's just a lake (ocean or river biome), and no jungles anywhere near this general area. I have a few other farms in the vicinity surrounding my base (all in an area of about 1000 by 1000 blocks), but nothing in that particular chunk. My slime farm isn't particularly big either (I'm not Dataless, lol), just 2 spawning pads one above the other in the adjacent slime chunk with canals around the perimeter. And I have chest-cart rail systems delivering all the loot from all my farms to my sorting system in my base (in a sort'a hub and spoke rail system).
Could all that railroad activity be causing this one chunk (that's not really near my base or any of my other farms) to be slow?

Okay. I'll try that and let you know...
Minecraft Region Fixer?!?! Didn't know there was such a thing... I'll google it and give it a try if MC Edit doesn't fix it...
Remember to make always a backup of u world before use tools on them!
And her the forgotten link to the Regionfixer tool:
