So whenever we play minecraft together, no one can see each others skins. We are all default. We can see our own skins,(Ex. Open Inv and character portrait is skinned) but no one elses. This happens on both LAN and our multiplayer server 1.7.9. We have tried changing skins through the official site but the result is the same, we can see our own and no one elses. We don't have any mods installed at all.
I have a similar issue. When I play on a LAN world with several friends I can see all of their custom skins, but they only see me as Steve. When I open my inventory I can see my custom skin. This has been going on for several weeks and I have logged out and logged back in several times, changed skins, used different methods for uploading skins, and even uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft and the issue continues. I'm completely out of ideas and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same here, as I replied in another post, same issue, whoever hosts gets to be "Steve" to everyone else, although we can see our own skin.
The way that you said that actually makes sense. Is this an actual thing? If so, I don't think it used to be a thing because before recent updates whenever I'd do a LAN party I was always capable of having my custom skin. I hope Mojang is able to make a fix because I've spent painstaking hours trying to fix it on my own.

This exactly. Every solution seems to fail.
