Hello I am new to the Minecraft forums,

I need some help with my Minecraft launcher v1.4.2 I am on Windows 8.1

When I open the launcher everything boots up A-OK but when it's done loading I can't play!

All has is the update notes, on the bottom it says: Welcome, guest! Please log in!
Ready to download & play Minecraft 1.7.2

But the thing is, I can log in! I cant log-out or play either, the buttons are shaded gray.

I tried deleting my .minecraft but that doesn't work, same with re-installing JAVA.

Please help me guys

Click 'New profile' in the bottom-left, give it a name and click 'Save profile'. From the drop-down box in the bottom-left, select the newly created profile and a login screen should appear.
