I followed this and it did not work, i renamed to folders after copying and changed their names and the version inside the .json file to 1.6.1-mod and then dragged all the files from forge into the .jar. What am i doing wrong?
here is what i did tell me what i did wrong Using a Macbook air 1. i made a file in versions named Xray 1.6.1 2.i copyed the 1.6.1 jar and json 3.placed them into my file renamed them both to Xray 1.6.1 4.went into json and renamed the id to Xray 1.6.1 5.opened my .jar inside my Xray 1.6.1 by adding .zip to it then opening it 6. draged my xray files into the opened jar 7. exited out and ran my new launcher 8.made a new profile and made it linked Xray 1.6.1 one time it ran but then i think it cleared out the files the other time it said somthing like fatal error version\Xray1.6.1\ then it i don't remember the rest somthing like library please help i can't live wid out it
sorry i did not get the Natives part also does it work for too many items ? when i rename my natives file minecraft creates another one with numbers in it am i doing something wrong ?
What is the thing with the {Version}-natives? It works, up until I put Minecraft Forge into the jar, then it wants to delete the new folder I made, 1.6-mods.
Just use forge installer then install in mods folder

Alright, I followed everything on here correctly but when I go to edit profile there was no 1.6.2-mods option. I only got the default launcher versions and use latest version. Does anyone know what I may have done wrong?
I am also having the same problem, ive been trying to figure this out myself, but it seems i have to learn to program a computer and half to get this thing to work. have you found a answer?

Thanks, but this doesn't tell me how to install mods in minecraft, it just tells me how to make a duplicate copy of minecraft to mod.
Nowhere can i find any info about installing actual mods which work in this version. 1.6.4 is the first PC version of minecraft we've played, but ive been told the launcher used to contain many more options? I don't know if that's true, but his one seems stunningly deficient.
I tried following instructions here http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v162-risugamis-mods-updated/, which were very similar, and had me copying files into the duplicated 1.6.4x.jar file. but when i chose the modded version it wouldn't run. The loader screen just blinked slightly and nothing happened. And this wasn't even the mod yet, just the loader for the loader for the mod... Um...yeah...
As I understand it so far, you have to do this (above URL) simply to make a loader to load a mod?
Honestly, all i want to do is get the simple functionality to be able to save my game without having to exit it every time, and to be able to exit without saving if something goes too horribly wrong.. You wouldn't think this would be SO DIFFICULT! i found a mod which says it saves checkpoints, called WorldStateCheckpoints 1.6.2.r03,
which seems to be the closest thing to being able to save your game, or choosing not to -- as EVERY OTHER PROGRAM OR GAME I HAVE EVER USED ON A COMPUTER SINCE 1985 has been able to do. Except minecraft.
Why oh why does Minecraft not have this simple functionality? Coming from the Xbox version, We're all happy to have villager trading and expanded maps, that's really great. We're excited to explore the differences here. but really irritated at the lack of these basic save functions in the pc version..
Anyway, can anyone tell me how to actually get a mod going in 1.6.4? Do i need a mod loader? apparently i need something called "bspkrsCore" also for the world state checkpoints mod... But how to install that? I really can't find any information about how all these things work together, and since the first thing i was told to do doesn't work, I'm completely stumped.
Help! Please?
My family would really like to be able to enjoy this game.
thank you
Trying to piece this together from many posts.I have had success with Forge and 1.62. and 70 mods.I now have the vanilla 1.64 version updated. Now I want to get the new Forge 1.64 and then add the mods.what I don't understand is, do I just add the new 1.64 mods in the same folder as the 1.62? can I keep my 1.62 mods separate and any 1.64 mods separate so they work with each version? I only see one "mod" folder. SAVES is another whole issue too.Do I move the mod and save folders into the Version folder?I'm gonna try but no idea how it would work with a world save if I don't have a separate copy based on each version.Be so nice if in each version folder you had a separate mod and save folder just for that version based on the profile you picked.Anyone have any success with this?
EDIT- Watched the video. I guess I could do that and copy in each mod and not use main mod folder. But still have the save issue.
Hello there, good Sir! I would like to know if it is possible to mod a 1.2.5-Minecraft through the new launcher? And if it is, how? It would be awesome if you would take your time to reply!

I am having the same problem as a lot of people. The modded version does not show up in the launcher. I have even attempted to just duplicate the unmodded files and change only the names and the ID field without adding any mod files to the .jar. No such luck. The launcher I have is 1.3.6. I am running on a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.9 I did notice that there is a slight bug while using Apple's TextEdit so I tried a third party text editor on the .json file and that made no difference. I know that I am not using spaces or special characters on anything. I am using the correct Minecraft version for the mod. I have attempted to instill the mod (VillageMarker2) about 10 times and it never shows up in the launcher.
When I made the modded version it wont run, I followed the instructions you gave and it wont run.
The launcher opens, I make a new profile, press play then the play button go's a grey colour and then it go's back to black and wont open

I tried doing this and I installed ModLoader and BTW on the 1.2.5 version and if I click play the client will close but the game will not open. Nothing will happen. Can anyone help me?
Your Minecraft is most likely corrupt, since I'm afraid you can't install mods on older versions of Minecraft than 1.5. Though, I'm not sure if you can or not, if you have proof of this, I'd love to know! ;-)
Okay, I'm trying to set up a modded 1.5.2 version and I've got everything explained in this tutorial working, but as far as actually installing mods, what about the ones that are supposed to be placed in the 'mods' folder, which no longer exists? Will it work if you just create it yourself or what?
EDIT: Nevermind, it was just me being dumb and eventually realizing that folder is created after installing forge.
EDIT 2: Been adding some mods and it's working fine so far, but how would you go about installing the 1.5.2 version of Single Player Commands with this launcher? The instructions for the mod say to place the WorldEdit.jar into the .minecraft/bin folder, but there is no more bin folder. I already tried using the automated installer but it didn't seem to work, so any advice about this?
I Would Not Think Of Changing the .JSON file just by renameing the .json to .txt then editing then changing it back to .json

Could it be due to the launcher was updated?
