I apologize ahead of time if this is posted in the wrong place. I have searched google, youtube, and many forums to get help and also posted to the Minecraft Forge forum for help but was just insulted instead of helped there. I don't know where else to look or what else to do.
I am just looking for anyone who is willing to take just a couple of minutes of their time to help me figure out why I keep getting the error message "Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile" when installing Minecraft Forge for the first time. I am trying to install this so that I can add mods for my kids to their Minecraft. It appears that a large amount of mods require this in order to install the mods.
I don't have any other mods or programs or anything else installed. I am trying to install forge for the very first time. I have followed the instructions that I have found in many different tutorials and I keep getting the same error message. I cannot seem to find or get any help on what to do about this.
I downloaded the file from the files.minecraftforge.net site, I made sure that I was running the 1.6.4 version of Minecraft and I downloaded the 1.6.4 installer off the website for Minecraft Forge. I double click on the file and I get the above error message. I right click on the file and choose open with Java and I get the same error message!
I have made sure that I have the most up to date version of Java. I am running Windows 7 on a PC.
If there is anyone out there at all that will help me out I will be so very grateful!
I'll make a checklist of things in order that you need to do to install successfully.
- Delete your current .minecraft Folder, to insure nothing is corrupted (You may backup any world saves)
- Start up Minecraft Vanilla in 1.6.4 through the launcher once, then close. (Close the launcher as well)
- Download the latest version of the Minecraft Forge Installer from here - http://www.minecraft...hp?action=files
- Open the installer, make sure it is pathed to your .minecraft folder (unless you have Minecraft saved to somewhere else)
- Run the installer, once it finishes reopen the Minecraft Launcher, and select your new Profile, which by default is named Forge.
Thanks for the response. I am totally new to all of this...I don't really know how to do any of that, I don't know how to save worlds or how to delete the .minecraft folder or even how to find it, and how do I path to my .minecraft folder....I am sorry see this is the problem I have been having, I don't understand how to do any of this.....nothing I can find explains it for the really really noobs! lol...
From the Start Menu, search %appdata%
There you will see your .minecraft, and inside that folder is a folder named Saves. Inside there is where your game worlds are saved, you can move those folders somewhere else to avoid deleting them.
Ok, after a whole lot of googling, I figured some of it out. I saved my worlds! Yay! Then I deleted the .minecraft foler then I ran minecraft again and then closed it. I downloaded the forge file and after that I am having some problems. According to the tutorials all I am supposed to have to do is double click that file and it should start something, but it's not, it's giving me the "invalid or corrupt jar file" error message. I moved it from the folder that it downloaded in to the .minecraft folder and then double clicked it and it gave me the same message. I tried right clicking and opening with winrar and it gave me another error message! Ugh!! I just can't seem to do anything with this file without getting an error message!
Right click and choose to open it with Java? If that doesn't work, try downloading a slightly older version of the installer. If neither work, then I'm at a complete loss.
Yea I tried the right click and open with Java thing too and still got the same message. And I also just tried an older version as well with the same result. I tried downloading every single version from the files.minecraftforge.net site and all of them are giving me the same error message.
This is so disappointing....my kids really want to be able to add mods to minecraft and that's the only reason why I chose buying them the PC version over buying the new PS3 version. I don't really know what to do now...
Thanks for your help though. I greatly appreciate it! You are very nice
I don't know what to do anymore....I have spent hours looking for answers on google and youtube and I have done every single thing that I have been told to do or that I have seen in my searches...and everything still results in the exact same error! I guess I am just gonna have to tell my kids they are gonna have to play Minecraft without any mods.
I have the same problem, except not with forge, but with installing mods. Really frustrating when I can download the mods I don't want, but not the ones I want.
