Ello! I need serious help.
So, I have this old computer that has an older version of Windows. It plays Minecraft just fine. The problem is is that most computers have the little search bar when you click the Start Menu. Mine, does not. Instead, it has Search. I can search for things through it, but it can never seem to locate the .minecraft file. For me it's generally upsetting because this means I can't download the mods I dearly want. It also means I can't uninstall Minecraft and try saving the file in a more accessible area, because if I can't find the file in the first place, how am I suppose to delete it?
Can anyone help or give some suggestions? And please, don't say,"Just get a new computer." Computers cost a lot and I don't have that kind of money.
What is your user profile path. (Assuming client launcher cannot locate it)
Such as: "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEEXACTLY\AppData"
There is a reason I am asking this, very special one. Java does not like symbols in user or paths in general.
If you mean you cannot find the .minecraft folder, then write permissions may be forbidden by the NTFS system and need to be taken ownership of the folder then. Gets a bit tricky there.
If you are trying to browse to the folder, you need to turn on hidden folders. Google helps you here, type your (windows version) how to view hidden folders.
Otherwise just open start menu (win vista and higher) and type in Search %appdata%/.minecraft then hit enter..

Press Windows key+R, or open Run from the start menu. In the box that appears, enter "%appdata%" and press enter. .minecraft should be visible in there.

For the people saying "Just enter %appdata%" I can't. It's so old Windows even stopped protecting my computer. Like I said, I don't have the box that I can search. I have a search option, but I can only search by file name. I will try looking in hidden files though, thanks SeaWry.
You might want to find Application Data at System32/SysWOW64

Windows 95, 98, ME?

Up till windows Vista, you will find Appdata in Document and Settings.
And.
Up till vista, you can turn on hidden files by: start > control panel > folder options > view tab > check the view hidden files and folders > then just ok out of that window.
Vista to 8.1 you can just search for %appdata%, and to view hidden files and folders open Control Panel, search for Folder Options and easy location the setting there.
It's so old Windows even stopped protecting my computer.
Given ideal, I assume OP has an Windows XP machine.
I managed to find the file. I just had to search in hidden files like some suggested. And yes, I figured out it is an XP. Still makes me mad Windows stopped protecting me. I checked the link they said me and all in all it literally meant,"Update your f**king computer because we need to update and you can't handle it. Peace."
