If Minecraft stops responding, you're probably just not patient enough. Wait a little longer, up to 10 minutes or so. If starting up takes more than 10 minutes, I'd start investigating further as something may be stuck. If that's the case, edit your Forge profile, and set Launcher visibility to always displayed (display after starting game, or whatever). There will be a log in the Developer console tab of the launcher, which could help us troubleshoot the issue if your game takes very long to load.
