I installed it the usual way and set my game version to the new Forge version, but when I click play, it loads, then the launcher just reappears. No game. I'm running 1.7.2, and Forge ver 10.12.0.1012. I noticed the problem after trying to use MCPatcher, (The Forger-MCPatcher version doesn't work either) but I'm not sure if that's connected.
You could try forge 10.12.0.1024 that's there recommended version currently. Also it could be incompatible mods in your mods folder causing it.Also I would recommend using optifine, I've had problems with mcpatcher in the past.

Okay, the good news is, that worked. The bad news is, I had to make a new folder for it so I can't get to my old saves. But I guess I'll work from there...

In all seriousness, I'd rather use Optifine if it weren't for the fact that after adding that, you can't add any new mods. I used it in 1.6.2, tbh.
Optifine isn't very well known to be mod compatible.
Textures bugging out, could cause more lag.
FTB doesn't use it because of this reason
