No such thing as meta-inf folder, because I deleted it. I'm not an idiot.
I only installed Forge out of the need for the In-Game NBTedit to help out a friend in his server.
I've never needed Forge before. I followed instructions. Heck, I made sure not to install anything other than Forge for a test drive.
Your reaction is overly exaggerated, and was of completely no help at all.

Sometimes I wonder if it's all too easy.
Lying, cheating, stealing your way to victory.
Though just how far would you fall for a dream?
I realise this is old, but i'm having the same issue. Anyone shed some light on why?
I start with a clean 1.5.2,
Load it up with launcher, so it creates files.
install forge for 1.5.2.
load it up again, and it just black screens, or freezes loading world. (depending on if i launch with minecraft launcher, or magic launcher.)
Have not even installed other mods with it yet, which is the whole point of using Forge.
I otherwise have no use for forge...
And of course there is no META-INF, as this is 1.5.2 which doesn't use that.
I'm having trouble too i dont get why it isnt working, i deleted the meta-inf file because i was told to do that if i got a black screen, but now what?
if you have any coremods delete them i did it just then and 1.5.2 forge worked yay!:D
oh and if you are trying/abandoned making a server then delete those files it crashes while trying to load up a world
No mods installed. I made sure everything was clean.
