I use version 1.2.3 because it's the only version that actually works for
a HP TC4400 (Intel 945gm GPU).
Theres quite a lot of downsides to using this version.
The current 2 I'm struggling with are as follows,
[Problem ONE]> So i made a lovely bunny skin for my character using photoshop,
i started by opening the "char.png" from -inside- the minecraft.jar. Added tons of colors and detail without changing the resolution.
No "AlphaBlending" is used, Though "AlphaTest" was part of the char.png to begin with.
I then saved it (as a .PNG same as it was), and placed it back in the minecraft.jar over the old one.
When i play minecraft, my custom char.png is loaded, but missing colors... My Green eyes are DarkGray, and many other rare colors used are just, absent!
This tells me that minecraft is pallet chopping the char.png into a very basic pallet of um, perhaps 16 colors?, is that correct? Is there some way to use more colors on my character? i didn't realize Minecraft was using pallets. I assumed from the existence of .png's, that the images had full 16 bit color?
16bit color :
65536 colors with no Alpha options /or/
32768 colors with AlphaTest (+ total transparency (On/Off) per color.) /or/
4,096 colors with AlphaBlending (+ 16 levels of transparent depth for blending per color. [Not supported by Minecraft])
I'm totally confused by what i see going on. why isn't my pretty png retaining it's colors when loaded by minecraft? You know what, I just converted my image to an indexed color map, and it's only 118 colors anyway! so Why does minecraft display it with less colors then are actually on it?? whats going on?
I'm running Optifine, Most of my installed mods are installed by manually opening the jar file and placing the mod contents into the jar. My "mods" folder seems to crash Minecraft if i stick -any- zip files in it, regardless of ModLoader or not.
These are the mods i run, they are all installed to the minecraft.jar directly. ModLoader is in there due to other mods internal requirements. ( Player API client uses it ) but does not actually work to load mods from the folder.

Note: Optifine allows my piddely old little laptop to run minecraft with 128x128 graphics packs like LB Photo Realsim Yay! \ o /
[Problem TWO]> I'm looking to install "More Player Models 2" but I've tried it many ways, especially with the "1.2.3" version of the mod, it will grant me bunny ears. But i just cant get it to work, pressing F6 Never brings up the character customization options.
Could some one buddy up with me to help me get things sorted out?
I'm pretty computer savy, and i can even edit java programing code. But minecraft sure has a lot of it to deal with X.X;

Because my HPTC4400 has no net connectivity.
I've also added my skin to a skin pack I'm building, but so far the same issues exist. where as -other- 64 bit skin packs i see, have no trouble changing to the full color char.png in thier \mob\ folder. I'm just losing colors for some reason when MC tries to load it. and that, is my question. Uploading to Minecraft.net is off topic.
