So i keep getting these OpenGL out of memory errors when my computer is laggy or when i load a resource pack any higher resolution than 32x32. i have allocated 2GB of RAM to minecraft via the launcher, but it is not helping. after some research i found out that opengl uses completely separate ram to minecraft, so i'm wondering, how can i allocate more ram to opengl?

EDIT: forgot to mention, i use optifine.
Can you post the error you are getting? I have never heard of an "OpenGL out of memory error" If your computer has integrated graphics, it shares its VRAM ("opengl memory") with your regular RAM. If you allocated too much memory to Java, its conceivable that there was not enough left over for anything else, like video. How much ram does your computer have? You should only need to allocate about 1.5GB with a 256x texture pack and less than 1GB in the launcher otherwise.

the error simply says this:
Quote from OpenGL »
########## GL ERROR ##########
@ Post render
1285: Out of memory
my pc has 6GB of ram and i allocate 2gb to minecraft via the launcher. i know what you said about 1gb but any less than 2gb makes my minecraft crash when my system goes a bit slow.
bump. please. also turns out it happens when logging into a multiplayer server. could it be anything to do with the fact there is lots of glass around where i last was on the server?

i have tried changing all the settings on optifine, even using fast graphics and tiny render distance.
i hereby commence daily bumping of this thread until i find a solution.
edit: nvm i fixed it... somehow... or rather it fixed itself. no idea what i did to it but its fine now.
