Over the last couple of days, my substantially modded Minecraft (33 mods) has been having lag/slowdown issues, which I had at first attributed to spawning in a particularly large OreSpawn tree in my Overworld, but destroying that has not changed the situation at all. My Desktop CPU/memory monitor gadget has been reporting 99-100% CPU usage for extended periods, and when I quit the game, CPU usage appeared to remain curiously high, sometimes interfering with other games. Using Task Manager tonight, in an attempt to try and find out what is causing this, I have found that when Minecraft is running, there are TWO Java processes operating at the same time, one of which does not shut down when I exit the game.
What is going on? Up until about the start of this week, the game had been running fine, even with this many mods, and if there's something this untechnical player can do to rectify the matter, I would be most keen to hear it.
Over to you...
System Info:
Win7 64 bit
8GB memory
Java - latest, I believe
GFX card - NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
*Updated* I shut down one of the Java processes mentioned above, and the game suddenly started running as it had before. It's a work-around, but hardly a solution, and it doesn't solve the mystery of WHY there were TWO Java processes running at once. Any input on this would be very much welcomed...
Two Java processes because I have both 32-bit and 64-bit Java on my system - but without both, I get the error "cannot create the Java virtual machine" whenever I hit the Play button. With both, the game will start, but I'm back to where I started with crazy lag and processor usage.
C'mon people - someone must have some clue what's going on, and how to fix it...
