Can someone please help me locate the CORRECT download location for version 1.7.4?
About a month ago, I purchased minecraft for my 9 yr old son who has become an everyday user. He goes on youtube and watches people for hours and then uses what he sees to engage and encapsulate himself into this wonderful software.
(right we're running minecraft 1.7.4 on a PC with Windows 7 with all the current service packs)
He now has a tremendous/relentless desire to get the "toontown" pack or mod which I was able to download (after dozens of tries and having to remove bloatware galore.)
The trouble is, when I seem to find the correct link for the latest version or installer for "minecraft forge," after I click run under "client" section, I get an error message that says: "You need to run the version 1.7.2 manually at least once" There's an "OK" button that does nothing except make me start over.
The toontown mod info and videos I watched said that we would need to download "forge" and run that profile to use that modification. Is this correct?
Am i downloading the correct "forge" ?
I'm running 1.7.4 but there is no "1.7.4 forge" on the files.minecraftforge.net website, so I first chose the 1.6.2 and the same thing happened, then I went back
and chose the 1.7.2 (which had a date as recent as 2/7/14) so I chose it and I get the same error message.
Can someone tell us what to do?
Is there a way to run the minecraft program manually? I tried opening the .minecraft folder (by using the %appdata% search) to expose the subfolders and
I clicked and right clicked on the various "launcher" icons but nothing happens.
I have used every bit of computer literacy I have for several hours today before troubling you good people with this dilemma. I have an unhappy child that is dying for spongebob and the rest of the toontown characters, so I just joined this forum to reach out for some help.
Sorry for the trouble, but can somebody advise me on what to do?
If I am in the wrong place for this, then I apologize...
The minecraft launcher has the ability to run any version of minecraft built in. All you need to do is create a profile that uses version 1.7.2 (which is compatible with Forge) instead of the latest version of 1.7.4. To do this, simply open the launcher, click New Profile in the bottom left, and then choose "Release 1.7.2" under Use Version in the popup menu. Save profile and hit play. 1.7.2 should begin downloading and afterwards you should be able to install Forge without the error after you close the launcher.
We did what you suggested. Right now the launcher is stagnant. In the lower right side next to "welcome" it says: "Ready to download & play minecraft 1.7.2" nothing is happening and I can't seem to find a way to get in. What do we do. I tried logging in and out and the same thing is happening.. The "play" button is "deselected" so there's nothing going on
Ok, also, we downloaded the minecraft forge version for 1.7.2 and now in the lower left it says: "Ready to update & play Minecraft 1.7.2-Forge10.12.0.1025" again, "play" is deselected and I don't understand how to make the program run. What do we do?
Ok so... I restarted the computer (to try that) and upon relaunch the "play" button became available this time and we clicked on it and a green progress bar went from left to right for about 10 seconds and then disappeared. So far after more than 10 minutes, nothing is happening. There is internet service, and We are logged in and nothing is happening.
Any idea what might be wrong?
My profile is "forge" and again, to the right it now says: ready to play minecraft 1.7.2-Forge 10.12.0.1025
The only option seems to be "log out" which when we do and then log back in, we're in the same predicament..
Still doesn't work after several restarts, shutting down firewalls/virus programs and etc. should I try an uninstall and then a re-install of everything? Or is there something I'm not doing (based on what I've said in previous replies?)
To "vogonpoetry" I'm hoping you left me alone here because I suggested in my replies to reinstall the software which worked to get the game to function. Now with the mods it keeps crashing! Uuggghhh! Can you give me some advice?
I placed the "assets and peanuts" folders in the mod folder of .minecraft. These are the "toontown" mods from last month.
After launch we choose the Forge profile and press play for 1.7.2 forge
After play it keeps crashing and gives us this error message: sorry, but it looks like the game crashed and we don't know why. Would you mind publishing the report so that the mod authors can fix it. At the very top it says: we think your game may be modded, and as such we can't accept this crash report and etc.
Any idea where I should post these errors because I have no clue...??.
Sorry, I had not checked back on this thread. I have no idea how "Toontown" works specifically, but forge mods are usually put into the mods folder in .minecraft. Actually I just googled the Toontown mod and it looks like it hasn't even been updated to 1.7.2. The latest I see is 1.6.4. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1998525-toontown-112-forge164/ That means you are going to have to follow my previous directions again, except for 1.6.4 this time. And then you'll need to download and install Forge for 1.6.4 http://files.minecraftforge.net/ The other thread has directions for toontown installation-
"This is a Forge mod. The correct version of Minecraft Forge is required. Use this link http://files.minecraftforge.net/ to download the recommended build for 1.6.4. Make sure to use the Installer, not the universal file. Once forge is installed, put the Toontown.zip file into the mods folder in your .minecraft directory. Run the normal minecraft launcher and be sure to choose the forge profile. Enjoy!"
Yes thank you vogonpoetry. We figured that out when we went back to the toontown download page. Thank God for computer literacy..
Also, the mod doesn't work unless you put the actual "zip" file into the mod folder. When I put the extracted toontown folders into the mod folder, I got the crash again, so I had to go and place the downloaded "unzipped file" into the mod folder to make it work. I guess the software has a native unzip program of some kind that it requires to operate.
THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING to us. My son loves the software and when he gets a little older and more able, I'm sure he'll be a part of your forum regularly..
Happy new year to you. All the best, and thank you again!
