So I want to install a mod, but I can't, because my version is 1.7.4 and the mods I want to install don't work for
my version.

Any ideas that how I can change my version???

Launcher > Edit Profile > Use Version > Version you want > ??? > Profit.

Of course! It is actually very simple.

Step 1: Open the Minecraft launcher.

Step 2: Go to the bottom left had corner and click on New Profile.

Step 3: In the window that pops up, change the profile name to whatever you want.

Step 4: Go down to Use Version.

Step 5: Click on the drop down and choose which version you want to run.

Step 6: After you have chosen the version you want, click on Save Profile.

Step 7: Click on the profile drop down in bottom left corner and choose the profile you just created.

Step 8: Run the game to see if it worked.

Step 9: Install the mods you want and have some fun!

As Biim and NitroPixel said, just open your launcher then select Edit Profile or New Profile (depending on your preference), find the "Use Version" drop down menu and select the version you want. You can then save the profile and play the game.
