My son got the Minecraft version for his computer for Christmas. Before now he has been playing it on his phone.
I have got the game installed on his computer just fine. He has been asking me to get mods installed on here. I can't figured it out. I have been told I needed Curse. I have it downloaded. When I go in there I see his minecraft game listed and an area for 'textures' but I see nothing for mods. I see the download section, but there's nothing in there.
When I go on the Curse.com site I go under Minecraft/mod and we have downloaded a couple of them. They download to his 'download' folder. No where do I see where I can tell it to download to Curse. I can go into the download folder and see what we've downloaded. When I click on them, nothing happens.
How do I go about getting mods on his computer? How do I move them from his download folder into this game so he can use them? Is there some other easier way for me to do stuff like this?
Thanks again for any and all help you can give me!!
I'm not entirely sure how the curse thing works.. but how I use mods can be simple but depending on your version, not so much.
The only minecraft versions I can help you with modding is 1.6.4 and earlier, as minecraft forge (I will be explaining shortly) is not yet out for the 1.7.x versions.
So first off, in your launcher, you want to hover over the bottom left corner where it has your Username, under it, it will say Edit Profile,
After selecting that, you should see a new window open, on this new window look for "Use Version:" and "use current version" will be selected, clicking on that will bring down a drop-down menu, select "Release 1.6.4" then click "Save Profile" at the bottom.
The next thing you want to do is download minecraft forge from files.minecraftforge.net
from here, you should select the "Installer" option beside the version.
Run the installer and then run minecraft once, close your minecraft window and reopen the launcher, where it shows your current profile, click it, and there should now be a profile called "Forge", select it.
Now, access your documents, in the top bar of the window, backspace what is there and type in (%AppData%) - WITHOUT the brackets.
the first option should be .minecraft, if not, find the .minecraft folder.
Once you find it, double click it and it will show you a list of folder.
Find "mods"
Google search mods for your minecraft version, download them, if you are using google chrome, when the download is complete click the little arrow beside the download box and select "show in folder"
Then, keep the new window open, and put the other window with your mods folder open on the same screen, then drag the mod into the mod folder, you may need another program such as 7zip or winRAR to do this action.
if you have any questions or this is too confusing for you, let me know and I can try to further explain and/or simplify it for you.UPDATE - after accessing the minecraft forge site, I have found that 1.7.2 has been released, follow the same directions, but for 1.7.2 if thats the version you wish to use.
