So I get modloader so I can install the biosphere mod. I go to versions and copy the 1.7.2 folder, rename everything I'm supposed to the same thing, "1.7.2-Mods" and put the class files in the new jar file and delete META-INF. The issue is, when I start up the launcher and click edit profile, and click which version, my new version does not even show up on the list. It's just not there.
Modloader is for 1.6.2 the last time I check only less than 10 mods are available in 1.7.2. Some mods I know that are for 1.7.2 are TMI, Podzol to Diamonds, X-Ray Mod, Zoom Mod, and Enderman Don't pick up blocks mod.
Ohh okay. So how do I get mods then? I don't have files for 1.6 or anything before that to copy and rename, or can I just copy and rename the 1.7.2 ones to 1.6.2? (Probably not since it has a bunch of new stuff.)
Okay so I downgraded it to 1.6.2, copy/pasted renamed blah blah and put in the biospheres download that I got off the updated to 1.6.2 page. It still doesn't show up in my list of versions.
I feel your pain, and so does my 7 yr old son. Do you think he is PATIENT???!!!! Apparently, the new launcher associated with 1.7.2 (which automatically updated without asking the user if he/she wanted it to) is different than any previous launcher. While it will indeed let you play previous 1.6.x versions of the game, it is incompatible with ModLoader. I have created profiles using 1.6.2, 1.6.4, and 1.7.2 and attempted to download the supposed correct version of ModLoader with no success. I can still download ModLoader for 1.5.2 and download the "older versions" of minecraft (which is really only 1.5.2) and this works appropriately. Forge for 1.6.4 works fine too after I insert the bizarre "fmllibsmc16.zip" file from Forge's EAQ page and place it into the "org" folder so it supplies the necessary scala lib and compiler files. This is just ridiculous. I have spent hours on this and I am very frustrated. While I understand that Mojang is under no obligation to work with the Mod interface developers, I strongly feel that they should. The "modding" ability is the unique facet of minecraft which obviously appeals to millions and has added to the success and enjoyment of the game. I'm not sure who to blame more - Mojang (who needs to communicate their updates better) or the mod developers (come on - it's java- not rocket science)!!!!
Modloader not working is down to the modloader devs, Mojang are making their game, and others are modding it, if the mods don't work thats the devs fault, not Mojangs.
Mojang are working on a mod api, but it takes time.
The coding for older versions did not change with the new launcher, so the launcher is not a reason for mods to not work

Moderatorhttp://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v162-risugamis-mods-updated/ see, 1.6.2
any other website that claims to have these mods for 1.7.2 is most likely lying
as pointed out above, they few mods that don't need a modloader of sorts may be updated
