I've played minecraft with my brother for years, and about two weeks ago we started having massive lag and crashing problems. There were no hardware changes, minecraft updates, or mod changes that I know of. I host the game from my pc, and after playing for about five-seven minutes the game starts lagging for me, but not for him. The lag gets continually worse until the game crashes and says java.exe has stopped responding.
I've tried changing the memory allocation both up and down, reinstalled video drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled java, made sure I have the correct 64bit version, and have not had any luck at all. I tested it, and I have no problems at all when it's on single player, but when I open it to lan then it starts the countdown to lag and crashing, even if my brother doesn't join my game. Any idea on what the problem is? Thank you!
OK, after futher experiment it seems to be the world which is the problem. I had loaded another world to test it about a week ago and it lagged and crashed, but that seems to have been a glitch because I can create new worlds and run them with no problem. Today I sent my save to my brother (who has a slower comp) to have him host it to see if I could join, and he lags and crashes within 30 seconds of loading the world even without turning lan on. My guess is that there is a memory leak in the world and my comp can handle it much longer because it is very fast, and turning lan on increases the load and accelerates the crash.
My question now is: can I save this world? My brother and I have been playing on it for quite some time and I'd really hate to have to start over from scratch.
Thanks, but I have no idea what is causing it. I have no idea what I'm even looking for to fix in MCEdit. Are there any methods to find out what the problem is?
I tried region-fixer but it didn't find any problems. I ran chunkster and afterwards the time it takes to crash seems to be longer (almost twice as long) but it still crashes after about 10 minutes.
