So I've been trying to mod my minecraft again and I seemed to have forgotten the recent way to get your mods into the game. Everytime I use a tutorial to help me with it I always get stuck and I don't know what to do.
This is what I've done so far.
%appdata%>>
.minecraft>>
versions>>
make copy of 1.7.2>>
rename copy "1.7.2_modded">>
Open 1.7.2_modded and change both files to "1.7.2_modded"
Open jar file with notepad.
Note pad opens with binary.
Instead of clicking "open with.." I click "edit"
Note pad opens with binary.
I can't seem to get my notepad to open up without binary so I can change the text to 1.7.2_modded. I know there was a way to fix this however every time I try to find the video I was watching before I can't seem to find it nor can I find a link that will help me with this problem. Also in the client I made a new profile name "modded" just in case I would need it. Can anyone help me with this problem and walk me through the rest of the steps please? This is really getting on my nerves and I kinda just want it fixed =/
1.7.2 hasn't been modded yet, or atleast not that i know of, you will have to check the mod in questions forum page to see the steps needed.
But as far as i know from 1.6.2 onwards (new launcher) all you have to do is create a new profile, run the forge installer, then drop the mod jar file into the mods folder, and play, simple as that.
When it comes to editing config files etc its a good idea to get and use notepad++ as that retains formatting much better than the standard notepad
