I'm helping my son out and please forgive me as I have not played the game. It was working fine just a couple of days ago. We launch the program and when we click "log in" we receive the java window:

FML is setting up your minecraft environment
Please wait, FML has some tasks to do before you can play

Downloading the file http://files.minecraftforge.net/fmllibs/scala-library.jar

We then receive the error:

There was a fatal error starting up minecraft and FML

Minecraft cannot launch in it's current configuration
Please consult the file c:\Documents and Settings\ohigginbotham\Application Data\.minecraft\ForgeModLoader-client-0.log

We are running Windows XP 32bit and he has loaded numerous mods and I don't know what all has been loaded.
