Just bought and d/l Minecraft for my son yesterday (v1.6.4). Today he asked for help installing mods. I'm a bit stumped. Most mods state to install to 'this' or 'that' subfolder within the Minecraft folder. But no such creature seems to exist. I have the Minecraft.exe file, but not folders. Nothing. What am I missing? I did not see any topics that seemed to address this (will readily admit I probably missed relevant posts). Game plays fine off the exe file, should it have installed folders when d/l? Do I need to further install something? Add folders myself? Load the MK-19 for when my frustration hits peak levels? Greatly appreciate any guidance given. Thank you.
When you run the game (from web or .exe), it puts all the folders for minecraft in ".minecraft" which is in the "roaming" folder. To get to it, open any folder, and go in the address bar (it's like the internet's address bar) and type "%appdata%" it'll take you to the roaming folder. In there, at the top is ".minecraft"
Now, depending on what mod it is, it'll use ModLoader, or Forge ModLoader. Forge is way easier to install, and those mods are more fun, cause you can code for stuff with Forge.
Forge has an auto-installer that installs it for you.
Here's my video for installing forge. -

Now get a mod (make sure it says it compatible with Forge), and put the .zip in the "mods" folder in ".minecraft". Like as i said in the vid, if there is no "mods" folder in the ".minecraft", just make it!
Thank you very much for your help. Got the Forge installer. Now I have another issue. I tried to open the .jar and got asked where did I want it extracted. Picked a folder, got some files, and another .jar. Extracted that to same folder, more files. Didn't see a file to launch anything. Should the .jar have 'run' upon opening instead of extraction?
