I get these problems often, I usually just reload Minecraft. If that doesn't work then go to your resource packs option and re-click your selected resource pack / choose another one and click back to the one you're using. Performing any update on resource pack switching usually fixes muted sound.
If THAT doesn't work then your in game sound might be turned down / muted, go to the sound settings and mess around with the sliders a little bit until you start hearing your sound, also, while you're doing this, make sure your computer's sound is good to go.
That or there might be some sound problems with the mod you're using.

I don't use any resource packs, I don't have any mods installed, my sounds are turned up at 100%,I restarted Minecraft 26 times, and... OF COURSE MY COMPUTER'S SOUND IS GOOD!

I'm talking about re-selecting the default resource pack, it usually refreshes the sound. That's all I can tell you other than to check your speakers but it's unlikely that your speakers are the cause of the problem.
You might want to do some searching on google, that usually fixes any technical problems I have with Minecraft.
