I'm currently running minecraft version 1.5.2, and am using the following mods:
Forge 7.8.0.736
Optifine 1.5.2 HD U D2
ShadersMod (Designed for Optifine 1.5.2_HD_U_D2)
HUDini_0-1-93_152
bspkrsCore v2.08
DirectionHUD v1.13
Also using Faithful 32x32 texture pack.
So here's the run down:
The game has run perfectly fine (And beautifully, thanks to shaders) until I was playing some hunger games, and tried climbing a ladder. My character simply could not. I would be against the ladder, but nothing would happen. Holding 'W' did not work, jumping into it did not work, and even sneaking did not work either. Really hoping for some answers as the games that I play commonly use ladders & whatnot.
It works again. The newest optifine works with forge for me now! yeaaa ladders

Hi guys i have the newest version of optifine and forge but i still cannot climb ladders and is really annoying any help?
I guess there really is nothing we can do atm, but wait for the mods to be updated. In the mean time, you have to live without one of them :/ so pick one

In my view removing optifine is the better solution, since removing mods will often mess up your current saves, but removing optifine just changes how the game looks (and fps and video options, but still)
I used to have this problem... Until i downgraded my forge mod a bit. Optifine is compatible with the lower versions of Forge.
A newer version of optifine works with I believe. I haven't tested it yet, but that's what I've heard!

But den, i haz a solutionz! Teh ropez plus mod! Climbable ropez! to makez ladder, just throw grappling hookiez at the block you wantz ladder to come from! u can climb! with or without suport blockz! To add trapdoor, just add it! Delete grappling hook icon on origin block for a nice, easy, ladder like claimable tingy! gnome more icon of grappling hook, but still can climb! YAY!!! SOLUTIONZ!
I have this problem too, I would say what mods I have but... I have 62 mods, and I don't feel like counting them.
Well, on 1.4.7 I had over a hundred mods. Custom epicosity modpack. Then it committed suicide. Then a brand new RAM revived it. then I upgraded to 1.5.2. Now i have 8 mods.

TL;DR: Can't climb ladders.

force updated to reset, all running ok and re-installing and checking one by one till Optifine installed again and ladders effect disabled again...I can confirm this - removing optifine fixed ladders. Which is disappointing, but better than losing one of the mods I like.
