I'm using Minecraft 1.6.2 on Linux Ubuntu 13.04. Earlier today I was playing on a server perfectly fine, but now when I play it, after about 10-30 second it closes. It doesn't crash or disconnect me. It just closes and pops the launcher welcome screen back up. Also, vanilla mobs and other players are missing body parts. Sometimes there's just a head and a left arm. Sometimes the chest and a leg are missing. I don't know what's causing it. The only mods I have installed are Pixelmon, Zan's minimap and CraftGuide, so it's not like I have anything that modifies rendering in any way. Then I tried switching profiles and using just plain old Vanilla. Things are still floating around without legs or bodies. I'm using the latest 1.6.2 forge and have the latest Java, so I'm really clueless. Also tried reinstalling Minecraft altogether. Still dismembered and closing out after a few seconds, even in single player. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

I am having a similar problem to you. I am playing with 74~ mods and I was wondering if it was a mod conflict but from what you've said it maybe a Java issue. I have heard some people having trouble with Java 7 so ill downgrade to Java 6 and see if that works. If you find the solution though please post it!
Edit: One mod I used was optifine and after removing it the problem went away. I would still suggest trying java 6. Good luck!
The same thing happened to me while playing Test Pack Please Ignore. I found that morphing to something else and then morphing back gave me back my limbs. If you don't have morph then I suggest restarting minecraft.
