Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
I've solved this (for us).
1-line solution: remove BrowserProtect. Alas, this may be very very difficult.
Another hint: try opening a cmd tool, CD to the directory with the Minecraft.exe in it, and running "java -Xmx800m -jar Minecraft.exe" - if that works, try increasing the number from 800 towards 1024 and it should eventually break. For me, it broke at 920. If this doesn't work for 800 or even 512, then you have a different problem.
I downloaded the ListDLL utility, and found a BrowserProtect DLL loaded into every Java process at address 0x10000000. This prevents JVM allocating a contiguous 1GB object heap, causing the "could not reserve enough space" message. A 1GB object heap (java -Xmx1024M) is the default setting for vanilla Minecraft and most minecraft-related apps.
Removing browserProtect from Control Panel -> Add /Remove programs fixed it for us. However, there are lots of trojans out there buried inside BrowserProtect binaries and some of them can be very hard to eradicate.

Click Enviroment Variables

Add this:
Variable Name:_JAVA_OPTIONS
Variable Value:-Xmx512m
Click ok
Try starting minecraft now
So, I found a rather idiotic solution. I just tested it several times and it works for me, but I have NO idea why. Just close all of your webpages and everything should work fine.
Yes, sometimes this does work, but not always. If this browser method fails, either log off (quickest) or restart your computer. You should find it works fine afterwards.
ERROR: Could not create the java virtual machine.

I've been playing minecraft for a year perfectly, I started it this morning and gave me this error in a dialouge box. I tried running it with a modded, a vanilla, and no .minecraft folder at all. Always gives me this error! Please help!

This has been happening to me too. I was just trying to install a mod and.... BOOM this message came up when I tried to load Minecraft.
Press enter, wait 5 seconds, then attempt to type in the cmd box, if you can't type continue waiting, if you can type, then close the cmd and go to your desktop, then copy paste everything from the "javaDebug" file in this thread.

Was also running into this problem suddenly and tried everything everyone has posted here and elsewhere but nothing worked. On this machine I have Windows XP and most recent update to Java 7.
Here is what I did to finally fix it and end my torment:
Right click your minecraft.exe and click on properties --> click on middle tab called "Compatibility" --> check box "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 95"
TA DA!!!
Where's minecraft.exe?

I haven't lost my temper. I know exactly where it is, and if you're still here in thirty seconds, you'll see it for yourself.
I got PERFECT solution for this problem (i haved the same problem)...JUST REINSTALL YOUR MINECRAFT...somone tell that he doesn't have any files from .minecraft so i think that i should just reinstall it and BOOM ! IT WORKS
Dont install the new one- Java 6 is the one you need. Java 7 is having bad problems, And it may or may not of caused this problem. I have this problem to. Un install java, Then re install java 6. *Make sure you install the one that goes to your computer, Meaning if you have 64 bit, Download 64 bit Java 6, If you have 32 bit then download java 32 bit 6* Im learning Java, But this sadly makes no sence to me. The message will change once you install java 6 to: "Could not create the java virtual machine". It's better *Im guessing, Due to the less errors.* But still wont let Minectraft run. Im not sure and I cant help you more then that >:C... Sorry. If I find an answer, I'll tell you C:<
I have this error to... But I have the solution! Go to your minecraft launcher and click on the "Edit profile" Button.
Then check the JVM Arguments box if you haven't, and lower the RAM to 1024 Mb
If you're still getting this error, try lowering the RAM again.
Okay, so I have been trying to get a 512x512 texture to work, and from some quick research, I decided to raise my RAM for the game. At a certain point, I can not add anymore ram because of this. I use MagicLauncher and try to add RAM that way.

So I'm hoping someone could help me out Please! If anyone was wondering what texture it is, it is R3D.CRAFT. And my first post, sorry if something isn't informative! I would've had a longer code but it said post was too long... And then when I shortened it, I panicked because my post seemed to stretch for miles, so I shortened it again... All that is left is the latest start up.

512x512 is very large, and it takes some time to load. Not all system can handle it, which is why the preffered texture pack size is 64x64 and 128x128.
