I'm a not-very-familiar dad of a player. We had 1.5.2 installed with sourceforge.
We have clicked and installed 1.6.2.
Now our computer seems to have icons to start 1.6.2 (with no mods) and 1.5.2.

My question is "should I try to somehow uninstall 1.5.2?" and "what happens when we want to modify 1.6.2?"

I know a bunch of stuff in the %appdata% folder was changed when we put in Sourceforge and a couple mods. I have no idea if that %appdata% folder needs to be cleaned out or rendered pristine now, so that modifications can occur under 1.6.2

Do I trash %appdata%? Do I leave it alone? If I want to install sourceforge in the future, does the prior installation of Sourceforge for 1.5.2 somehow cause trouble?

Why are you downloading Minecraft from a sourceforge? Any other source rather than minecraft.net and technicpack.net is most likely a cracked client. If you didn't buy the game, then we'll not help you. Buy the game please.
