I don't think it's too many mods, but more like certain mods aren't playing nicely with each other. It's a race condition / concurrency exception.

TMI doesn't work the greatest with forge, with forge you are better off using NEI (Not Enough Items), it also functions like recipie book, so you wouldn't need to install that either.

It doesn't take much work to get a bunch of mods to work together. It's mostly just installing things in the proper order, and adjusting the config files to remove item conflicts. The forge API is a wonderful thing, that allows mods to play nicely with each other as long as the mod authors write the mod on the forge api.
