I was building my storage room so I opened a chest to put in some dirt when every block became clear except effects and certain textures such as lava and water. I have ONLY optifine and rei's minimap installed so no x-ray. It's not x-ray because no ores or other x-ray stuff showed up. I couldn't take pictures because it was a shock and I don't know how to replicate it.

This can happen when your head gets stuck in a wall due to a glitch. It's just a bug. Don't worry about it, as you said you weren't able to replicate it. That means it hasn't happened recently.
