The java process will randomly start using every last bit of my ram causing my fps to drop from 50-40 to 5-10, Any ideas / suggestions? I've been told optifine could be the cause.
Java and Minecraft are definitely big memory hogs. Keep in mind that you are looking at Java memory usage, and there are a variety of applications that use Java. I advise that you try exiting Minecraft, then ending the Java process, then restart Minecraft.
