I have been trying for the past hour to download the Necromancy mod for my child. I have had no trouble downloading and installing maps since you just drag and drop the file. Mods are a different ballgame. He has Minecraft version 1.4.7 (no, I have no interest in updating, that causes problems) and we are running Windows Vista.

The issue is this: Every time I go to download the Necromancy mod from a website for his Minecraft version, the website wants to force me to download an "installer" first. I have Forge downloaded already since that seems to be what everyone uses. The installer is always, always different. I just want to be able to download this file and then go about figuring out how to get it to work. My question is this, is there anywhere I can just download this file without downloading the sponsored "installer" first? Also, a website with very, very basic step-by-step installation instructions would help immensely, since I have no clue what I'm doing and all guides include steps that are second nature to other people but Greek to me.

Sorry, I'm just extremely frustrated and don't want to litter my computer with different installers that don't do anything to help.

You should find the mod here, on these forums, not a third party website. To install a forge mod you should just have to drag the zip file you download into the mods folder in the .minecraft directory.

I have done a search but, unfortunately, the only Necromancy mod version on this site appears to be for 1.5.2. I need 1.4.7.

Thanks. It seems there was no earlier version than 1.5.2 and I will have to update our Minecraft version. It seems that Minecraft automatically updates. I don't want the latest version. I only want to upgrade to 1.5.2 to get the original mod, use the old version of Forge and let my son enjoy this mod. Is that even possible, or am I forced to get the latest version? I was looking on the Minecraft official site by the way. I thought I'd ask here first before trying to get 1.5.2 from somewhere else.
